9th Convention of SAFAAS

On December 16 and 17, 2011, the 9th Convention of the South Asian Federation of AOTS Alumni Societies (SAFAAS) was held in Kathmandu, Nepal. This convention is held by 17 alumni societies of six South Asian countries once every few years in order to promote interregional cooperation and enhance their network/ The 9th Convention was hosted by the Nepal AOTS Alumni Society.

Many guests including Rt. Hon. Mr Parmananda Jha, Vice President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, attended the opening ceremony held on the first day, and expressed their gratitude and expectations for the contribution by AOTS Alumni Societies to the industrial and economic developments in each country. In addition Prof. Ryokichi Hirono, Professor Emeritus of Seikei University, gave a keynote lecture.

In addition to ordinary sectional meetings, the lecture was followed by plenary session, where the Youth Leadership Workshop was conducted by inviting Dr Hiroyuki Oba, Professor of Reitaku University, as the lecturer. The workshop served as a networking opportunity for young leaders of the alumni societies responsible for the next generation.

At the recent SAFAAS Convention, more than 150 participants including observers from the alumni societies of other regions deepened exchanges, and the AOTS ties that extend to the entire world were further strengthened in Kathmandu.

Event Images

SAFAAS was established in the year 1990 on a proposal made by JASTECA during the AOTS World Convention held in Thailand. The objective was to establish regional federation in the developing world such as Latin America, Africa, Europe and China.
